The masterpiece of the great Greek composer in poetry of Dionysios Solomos.

Yiannis Markopoulos' iconic work "The Free Besiegers", a folk work for symphony orchestra, mixed choir, lyric singers (tenor, baritone, basso-baritone) and narrator, is considered a landmark of modern Greek music.

The great composer from Crete studied the "Free Besiegers" and created the libretto by choosing parts from all the designs of the poem, prose, verse and narrative parts. Markopoulos' engagement with the work of our national poet lasted almost ten years, from the mid-60s to the mid-70s, a time when the country was experiencing major political upheavals.
