About

The Museum of Cycladic Art participated in the planning of the exhibition "ReThinking Social Conflicts", the second of the series of exhibitions within the framework of the thematic exhibitions under the title "ReThinking".

The exhibition focuses on the social conflicts that have accompanied humanity since its beginnings in different forms such as through conflicts, confrontations, classism and competition, strikes and labor conflicts, class struggle and revolutions, war and the civil war.

The exhibition is curated by Marina Plati, Eleni Markou and Nefeli Bandela from the Museum of Cycladic Art, Catalin Betz and Sibylle Dienesch from the Museum of Graz in Austria and Irini Khenkin from the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation in Nicosia.

The exhibition at the Museum of Cycladic Art includes three works in digital format from the Museum of Cycladic Art, the Museum of Graz in Austria and the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation in Nicosia, which aim to present the theme of conflicts from ancient times to the present day: These are a capped compass (760-750 BC), the woodcut "The Fury of the Cherries 1920" (1955) and the map on a sheet of paper with the name "CIPRO" (1570) of the three museums respectively.

The exhibition is framed by a special "Conflicts" route that leads the visitor to three selected objects from the permanent exhibitions of the Museum of Cycladic Art related to the conflicts. These objects will also be presented in digital form within the exhibition space, while at the same time there will be digital tools and activities through which visitors will be able to explore both the objects themselves and their personal experiences and beliefs regarding the conflicts.

Parallel actions:
• As part of the exhibition, there will be live and online tours as well as tours in sign language.
• Within the framework of the Cycladic Art Café Project, part of the Museum's Contemporary Art Program, works by contemporary artists are presented successively, touching on the issues raised by each exhibition. During the second exhibition on the theme of social conflicts, the work of the Iranian Shirin Neshat entitled: Stories of Martyrdom (1994) is presented. The project Stories of Martyrdom is part of her famous photographic series "Women of Allah", completed between 1993 and 1997, through which Neshat explores the complexities of the female dimension in Iran after the Islamic Revolution of 1978-1979.
