The Municipality of Athens presents the exhibition "Encore: new Greek painting" in the Art Gallery of the Municipality of Athens, from June 27 to September 10, 2023.

The exhibition, organized by the Culture, Sports and Youth Organization of the Municipality of Athens (OPANDA), includes works by 33 painters up to about 40 years old. The criterion is not strictly age-related but primarily aesthetic: the exhibition is looking for new forms, languages ​​and gestures, artists who explore new, exciting and unexpected paths in contemporary Greek art. It places particular emphasis on high painting quality and, at the same time, seeks to propose methodological tools for the understanding and evaluation of contemporary Greek painting.

The exhibition has resulted from systematic field research, workshop visits and extensive discussions with the artists. It structurally takes into account the way in which the painters themselves think about the present and the historicity of both their work and more broadly of contemporary painting.
