Greek Radio Stations

The road to private radio was opened after the 1986 municipal elections on the initiative of the mayors of Athens, Thessaloniki, and Piraeus. In 1987, the first non-state radio station, "Athens 9.84", was created.

It was followed by "Kanali 1" of Piraeus, and the radio station "Thessaloniki FM 100". Private radio is now a common reality in everyday life.
