Difficult draw for Sakkaris at Wimbledon

Quite a difficult path... the Wimbledon draw reserved for Maria Sakkari.
Quite a difficult path... the Wimbledon draw reserved for Maria Sakkari.

The Greek tennis player will start the London tournament against a strong opponent, Ukrainian Marta Kostiuk, who is No. 35 in the world ranking and about three months ago won the first WTA title of her career, in Austin.

Sakkari has defeated Kostyuk in their previous two meetings, the first of which was again in the 1st round of a grand slam, specifically at the 2021 US Open.

Once she clears the first hurdle, the Greek champion is very likely to face Paula Bandosa, as the Spaniard (who is paired with Stefanos Tsitsipas) is the favorite to face American Alison Riske.

It should be noted that the head of Sakkari's side of the scoreboard is the Belarusian Arina Sambalenka, whom the Greek tennis player can find opposite her in the quarter-finals.

This year marks the 136 of Wimbledon, which is held at the All England Lawn Tennis Club. The tournament features a 128-player singles draw and 64-team doubles draw.

Main-draw singles play begins on Monday, July 3rd.

Play begins on all outside courts at 11:00 a.m. No.1 Court at 1 p.m. and Centre Court at 1:30 p.m. until the final weekend.
