The silver medal at the World Aquatics Championships in polo in Fukuoka, Japan was won by Greece.

In a nerve-racking game decided on penalties, Greece lost to Hungary with a score of 14-13.

Regular time found the two teams tied at 10-10, but in the penalty shoot-out, Vongel, the Hungarian goalkeeper, won gold for his team with his performance.

The band of Thodoris Vlachos won the silver medal for the first time in its history and reached four in the event, having also won three bronze medals (2005, 2015, 2022).

The national team fought for the victory until the last minute but the Magyars seem to have wanted it more.

Moreover, with a post on Twitter, the President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou congratulated the National Men's Polo Team for winning the silver medal at the World Aquatic Championships in Japan.

It reads: “Congratulations to the great men's national polo team for winning the silver medal at the World Aquatic Championships in Fukuoka! We are proud of our team, which stands out not only for its performance but also for its ethos."
