Pope Francis wanted to express his support for Greece, which is being tested by a series of wildfires.

In a telegram that the Prime Minister of the Holy See, Pietro Parolin, sent to the president of the Holy Synod of the Catholic Hierarchy of Greece, Bishop Petros Stefanou, it is underlined:
"Pope Francis expressed his strong concern for the threat to human life and the damage caused by the extensive fires in many parts of Greece and beyond, as a consequence of the heat wave affecting many European countries."

At the same time, as stated in the telegram, the pope is on the side of all those affected "and prays asking the Lord to bless the efforts of the firefighters and all emergency personnel, to fight this dangerous situation".

The pontiff, finally, "expresses the hope that the risks to our common home, which have increased with the ongoing climate crisis, will push all people to renew their efforts, with the aim of protecting the gift of creation, for the good of future generations".
