ADEDY: Work stoppage for International Women's Day on March 8 and against the law for private universities
In an announcement, ADEDY reiterated the timeless demands of 8 March, which is equal pay for equal work and equal opportunities for women and men.
In the same announcement, it expressed its opposition to the draft law on private universities.
For this reason, the Executive Committee of ADEDY said it would include in the context of its Friday mobilization and work stoppage a mass expression of opposition to the unconstitutional bill on the establishment of private universities, and called on the public to join its protest rally.
In related news, Hellenic Education Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis said on Wednesday that lawmakers had dismissed the five objections submitted by opposition MP questioning the constitutionality of a bill allowing the establishment of private universities.
The minister said the objections were refuted by the parliament’s Scientific Service.
They were submitted by MPs of leftist SYRIZA, the Communist Party (KKE), religious-conservative Greek Solution, the New Left, and nationalist Niki, which together hold 90 seats, while ruling New Democracy, which introduced the bill, holds 158.
