The motion of no confidence against the government, submitted by PASOK-Movement of Change, SYRIZA-PS, New Left and Pleussi Eleftherias, on the issue of Tempe, was rejected by the plenary session of the Parliament.

After a roll-call vote, and out of 300 voters, 159 MPs - the 158 of the ND and the independent K. Katsivardas - voted against the motion of no confidence while the 141 MPs of the opposition were "in favor".

According to the Regulation of the Parliament "A no-confidence motion is accepted only if it is approved by an absolute majority of the entire number of Deputies".

As noted by the Speaker of the Parliament, K. Tasoulas, the 3-day debate on the proposal lasted more than 40 hours while a total of 163 speakers spoke.

In particular, the first meeting began on the morning of Tuesday, March 26 and ended at half past three in the morning the following day. The second started on the morning of Wednesday March 27th and ended at 3:35 the next morning. The last meeting also started this Thursday morning, and ended with the roll call vote, around 11pm.

In detail, during the three days of the debate, 118 deputies from the list, 9 parliamentary representatives, 26 ministers, deputy ministers and deputy ministers, a former prime minister, 8 presidents of parliamentary groups, and the prime minister spoke.

Mr. Tasoulas also noticed that this is the motion of no confidence that lasted longer than any other.

In related news, 2 ministers have resigned from the government.

Hellenic Minister of State Stavros Papastavrou and Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister Yiannis Bratakos submitted their resignations to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The prime minister thanked them for their cooperation and accepted their resignations, a statement from his office said.

A government source said that their “participation in a social gathering gave the wrong message.”

The meeting in question was raised in Parliament on Thursday by the PASOK leader, Nikos Androulakis, during the debate on the motion of no confidence in the government.

Androulakis, whom the government accused of tabling the no confidence motion due to being “entangled” with a certain businessman, asked why two government ministers had drinks on Sunday night together with the same businessman.

“Did you send them to smoke cigars or a peace pipe,” Androulakis asked.

In a statement issued before the resignations, main opposition SYRIZA said that the next time the government accused SYRIZA of being “entangled” with certain interests, it should recall the “friendly drinks” of its ministers with the same interests.

Reacting to the resignations, New Left said: “If anyone should resign, it is the prime minister himself, the high priest of cover-ups, lies and misinformation.”
