Central Athens roads closed due to rallies and marches marking Grigoropoulos shooting

Special traffic measures have been imposed in downtown Athens on Wednesday due to rallies and marches that are planned for the 15th anniversary since the murder of teenager Alexandros Grigoropoulos, who was shot dead by a police officer in 2008.
Special traffic measures have been imposed in downtown Athens on Wednesday due to rallies and marches that are planned for the 15th anniversary since the murder of teenager Alexandros Grigoropoulos, who was shot dead by a police officer in 2008.

According to police, roughly 500 school and university students, as well as teachers, have gathered at Propylea on Panepistimiou Street for a march to Syntagma square.

Panepistimiou street has been closed to vehicles from the junction with Vassilissis Sophia's Avenue, Athinas street has been closed to traffic from Sophokleous street, and 
Pireos street has been closed from the junction with Iera Odos.

Moreover, the 'Panepistimio' and 'Monastiraki' metro stations are closed on Wednesday by police order due to the rallies and marches that will be held in downtown Athens to mark the 15-year anniversary since the fatal shooting of teenager Alexandros Grigoropoulos by a police officer in 2008.

'Panepistimio' station will close from 09:00 in the morning while 'Monastiraki' station will close between 11:00 to 15:00 and from 18:00 until further notice. Trains will pass through these stations without stopping.
