Constantine Tassoulas was re-elected as President of the Hellenic Parliament with 249 votes on Tuesday.

Tassoulas was re-elected as Parliament President with the votes of New Democracy, SYRIZA, PASOK and Hellenic Solution MPs. The 59 MPs from the other opposition parties abstained.

In a speech after his re-election, the President of the Parliament sent a message that he will ensure the smooth and unhindered operation and work of the parliament.
"Having been honoured again by the Hellenic Parliament, I invite you to contribute so that the national delegation is the living and fertile democratic workshop of the essential political synthesis that pushes things forward.

We hear or read predictions - or maybe even wishes - that the eight-party composition of the new parliament will have institutional acrobatics, base behaviors and extremes, which would convert it from a space for exercising policy and producing legislative work, into a permanent arena to garner publicity.

Personally, I'm in no rush to prejudge anything. And if I spoke to you about the work of the Parliament, about its mission, about our mission and about the auspicious threshold at which our country is, it is because I wanted to invite you to a parliamentary course that will have no elements of obstruction, nor unnecessary difficulties or arrogance," the President of the Parliament said and added:/

"I will be very happy to have all of you by my side in the smooth conduct of the work of the parliament, which is the primary duty and obligation of its president, above and beyond any narrow-minded pursuit."
