Tolerance of antisemitism means tolerance of neo-nazism, KIS says

"Τolerating antisemitism means tolerating neonazism and the abolition of the values of a democratic society, of a lawful state. Because antisemitism begins with actions against Jews but never stops at the Jews," stated the Central Board of the Jewish Communities in Greece (KIS) on Wednesday, regarding the vandalism of a mural dedicated to the deportation of the Jews of Thessaloniki to German concentration camps.

The announcement of the Jewish Communities in Greece follows: Vandal antisemites roam freely and stain undisturbed any attempt to preserve Holocaust memory in Thessaloniki.

For the second time, the mural commemorating the deportation of the Jews of Thessaloniki to the German extermination camps of Auschwitz-Birkenau, which was created by the "Vardaris Neighborhood Group" and adorns the surrounding wall of the new railway station of Thessaloniki, with views from the pre-war and occupation periods of Thessaloniki, was vandalized.
This time the nostalgics of Nazism declared their intentions and anti-Jewish hatred with swastikas and fascist symbols.

This is the second anti-Semitic incident in a few days, after the desecration of the Monument dedicated to the old Jewish cemetery of Thessaloniki at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
We state once more: tolerating antisemitism means tolerating neonazism and the abolition of the values of a democratic society, of a lawful state. Because antisemitism begins with actions against Jews but it never stops at the Jews.

Statements of condemnation are not enough! It is unacceptable that those responsible for the vandalism of memory remain at large. Once again we call upon the Authorities to take all necessary measures in order to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to Justice.
