The Hellenic Coast Guard on Sunday announced that three foreign nationals in total have been arrested on charges of organizing the landing of 41 irregular migrants without travel documents on Hamolia Beach in Vravrona, on the east coast of Attica.

They include 2 Egyptians aged 47 and 20 years old, respectively, who were arrested off the shores of Kos on the yacht that was used carried the migrants and a 37-year-old Syrian national arrested in the Athens area, who is considered the organiser of the migrant-trafficking operation bringing third-country nationals to the EU via Greece.

A coast guard announcement said that the yacht had set off from Cesme in Turkey bound for the shores of east Attica. According to the accounts of the migrants themselves, they each paid 5,000 Euros for their passage.

In a raid on 2 homes used by the 37-year-old, in the presence of a public prosecutor, Greek authorities found hand-written notes, address books and two mobile phones. The suspect also operated a shop on Liosion Street that he used to organise the transportation of migrants in Turkey to Europe via Greece.
